Bittorrent is a Peer to Peer (P2P) file sharing networking program. It has NOTHING to do with games or anything harmful. WHERE do you people GET this stuff? Or is it just that you REALLY are that paranoid? It is what is INSIDE the files you download that you should be afraid of! It is the CONTENTS which can be infected with a virus. Bittorrent by itself is nothing more than a private networking application, a way to share files and transfer copies back and forth with others running the same client software. Will downloading a pc game demo from bittorrent harm my computer in any way?
The technology is not itself harmful, and there are legitimate uses for it. But there are @$$holes who seed binaries infected with malware on torrent sites. Just a fact of life.

So, technically, yes - there is some risk involved in getting executables from a torrent site.

Next question for you: WTF are you doing BitTorrenting a FREE demo you can download without worrying about viruses from the BioWare site? Will downloading a pc game demo from bittorrent harm my computer in any way?
The question has to be whether the program is legit or malware. If it's malware then it will hurt. Getting software from someone whose honesty you cannot determine means there is no a priori way to determine if there is malware hidden in it. It depends on how smart they are.
