My PC has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.31 GHz and a GeForce 8500 GT. The games I want are: Assassin's Creed 2, Metro 2033, Crysis, Dragon Age: Origins, Mafia II, and Mass Effect II. I'm gonna get a better graphics card for Christmas so which one should I get and about how much is it?How will these games run on my PC?
The 8500 GT is an ancient business model not designed for games. Having said that, it will at least run those games but the gameplay will be very bad because of low framerates. I used to have an 8500 GT and Crysis crashed at one point. I managed to barely run Mass Effect on a low resolution (and high settings since changing the settings doesn't affect performance). Mass Effect 2 actually runs a little smoother (so I've heard, I've upgraded before playing it) but download the demo just to be sure.
Dragon Age Origins has very low minimum requirements and even some integrated chipsets manage to run it.
If you're gonna get a better graphics card for Christmas, keep in mind that it requires a better power supply with more wattage and more amperage on the +12V rail. The card you should choose depends on your budget. You can find good cards ranging from $100 to $700. A GTS 250 will probably complement the other specs fine as long as it has a good power supply from a quality brand (like Antec). How will these games run on my PC?
Not very well at all. 8500 is your bottleneck. It's quite outdated and the lower end of the 8 series. I upgraded my 8800GT to an HD 4890 XT a year or so ago. Make sure when you upgrade your power supply and case will suffice. How will these games run on my PC?
